On May 21, 2025, the editorial department of Journal of Macau University of Science and Technology (hereinafter referred to as “the Journal”) was honored to receive the “Important Source Institution for the Selected Materials” certificate from the Book and Newspaper Information Center for Social Science of Renmin University of China (RUC). This also marks the first time since the Journal’s inception that it has been included `in the database of the Information Center for Social Science of RUC. The designation of “Important Reprint Source Institution” refers to journals, publishers, academic institutions, and others that have been analyzed and recorded by the Book and Periodical Information Center for their high academic or social impact. The papers published by these institutions are regularly reprinted due to their high content quality and authoritative viewpoints, and they are accessible in the Center's database for scholars to reference.
Since 2015, the Book and Newspaper Information Center for Social Science of RUC has periodically published the list of “Important Source Institution for the Selected Materials” every three years, with 2025 marking the fourth release, which includes a total of 103 higher education institutions nationwide. The reprinted papers are evaluated using a self-developed “Humanities and Social Sciences Paper Quality Assessment Index System,” which reflects the quality level of academic papers from higher education institutions based on four core peer review indicators: “Degree of Academic Innovation,” “Completeness of Argumentation,” “Social Value,” and “Level of Difficulty.” The evaluation standards for reprinted literature are based on “Reprint Analysis” and “Peer Review.”
Since its reform in 2022, the Journal has actively aligned itself with the development of mainstream international academic journals. In addition to launching a dedicated website platform, it has established a submission and review system and incorporated Digital Object Identifier (DOI), enhancing the transparency, recognition, and visibility of its articles on an international scale. Furthermore, journal is annually funded by the Macao Foundation under the “Academic Journal Publication Scheme”, also has collaborated with the World Chinese Teaching Society to launch the “The Column of the International Society for Chinese Language Teaching” which has received funding from the Ministry of Education's Center for Language Education and Cooperation. Starting in 2023, the Journal transitioned from a semi-annual to a quarterly publication, releasing four issues per year. Following this transformation, the Journal has attracted attention from numerous higher education institutions both domestically and internationally, expanding its sources of submissions from local universities in Macao to several renowned institutions in Mainland China, including Peking University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Tianjin Normal University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, and East China Normal University. In 2024, the editorial committee approved a proposal to divide the Journal into a “Humanities and Social Sciences Edition” and a “Natural Sciences Edition (under preparation)” starting in 2025. This move aims to accurately position the Journal academically and lay the groundwork for inclusion in the core journals of Nanjing University or Peking University, collectively building a network for academic exchange in the Greater Bay Area.
