The Faculty of Innovation Engineering (FIE) at Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) will introduce a new Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence (MAI) program starting from the Fall Semester of the 2026/2027 Academic Year. Online applications are now open and will be accepted until July 6, 2026, subject to quota availability.

Program Overview
Artificial Intelligence has become a core driving force in global technological competition and plays a critical role in national strategies, industrial upgrading, and smart city development. In response to the national emphasis on cultivating new quality productive forces and advancing independent innovation in frontier technologies, the MUST has launched the program MAI based on its strong disciplinary foundations. The program aims to cultivate advanced AI professionals with core competencies in deep learning, intelligent perception, intelligent systems, and large-scale model technologies.
Faculty Background and Academic Strength
One of the predecessors of the FIE was the Faculty of Information Technology, established in 2000, making it one of the University’s four founding faculties. To further advance disciplinary development and strengthen the innovation ecosystem, the MUST integrated the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering (SCSE), the Department of Engineering Science (DES), the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (DMSE), and the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering (DESE) in March 2022, forming the Faculty of Innovation Engineering (FIE).
This integration has established an interdisciplinary teaching and research platform centered on artificial intelligence and advanced engineering technologies. Supported by a comprehensive disciplinary structure and a distinguished faculty team, the MUST’s Artificial Intelligence discipline ranked 88th globally in the U.S. News 2025 Best Global Universities – Subject Rankings, and demonstrating the Faculty’s leading strength in AI education and research.
Learning Resources and Support
To support students’ learning and research activities, the Faculty offers a wide range of specialized teaching and research facilities in computer and information-related fields, covering key areas such as hardware, software, networking, and signal processing. These resources include: Teaching laboratories, Research laboratories, MUST LIU’s Innovation and Technology Center, Specialized library collections
The program is supported by the SCSE, which houses the Innovation Research Center for Medical Robotics and the Next-Generation AI Supercomputing Center at Macau University of Science and Technology. This center is equipped with multiple high-performance servers, providing robust computing power to meet the intensive AI research and computational needs of students.
Program Objectives
The program aims to establish a comprehensive and integrated AI knowledge system for students, enabling them not only to master machine learning in depth, but also to understand the interconnections and collaborative applications across AI subfields.
Graduates will develop a holistic perspective and strong problem-solving abilities for complex real-world challenges, preparing them for diverse professional roles such as Artificial Intelligence Engineer, Algorithm Scientist, and AI-oriented Product Manager, among others.
Career Prospects
Graduates of the program will possess strong interdisciplinary and applied competencies to meet challenges in the global technology industry, with broad and flexible career prospects.
Potential career pathways include, but are not limited to: technology and Internet industries, financial services, healthcare and medical innovation, smart cities and public services, Academic and research institutions, Entrepreneurship and start-ups.
